International rugby break goes down well at Trafford MV and hope it will encourage more people to play the game

As International 6 Nations Rugby took over the fixture lists it was time for local rugby clubs to open their doors and invite the Community in to enjoy rugby hospitality.

A full house saw a good win for Scotland over England in the Calcutta Cup clash 25-13. This coming weekend see’s a return to the bread and butter of our game as MV hit the road and head deep into Lancashire to face Burnley in North Lancs / Cumbria League action.

Trafford MV will be looking to make a statement as they face the bottom of the table Burnley who are struggling with only a single win this season way back in November, MV on the other hand have won 4 on the trot which puts them in a healthy 8 place on the division.ith a weeks break to recover from knocks MV will be fielding a strong XV with a target of collecting important League points with a desire to get initially a top 6 league placing.

In a competitive league this will be a good league placing as MV look to build consistent league performances.

MV are hoping the high public profile of International Rugby will be the incentive for the next generation of local amateur rugby players to step forward and boost local Rugby Union at all levels.

With big rugby schools like St Ambrose College, Altrincham Grammar and Sale Grammar playing exciting youth rugby Trafford MV are calling on teenage players from across the borough to get in touch with their local club and develop rugby skills and game knowledge.

MV are looking to recruit new teenage players for their U13 to U17’s teams – anyone interested should contact Greg Hawkins on 07834 857905.

Rugby is not just a game for kids however and MV are also seeking to keep rugby players enjoying their sport into their later years with Touch Rugby for over 40’s on Thursday evenings at 6.30pm and Walking Rugby for over 50’s on Wednesday evenings at the same time.

MV already has a hard-core of interested men and women already playing both games and enjoying the exercise, competition and skill set provided by the sport. Any one interested should contact Wilf Dooley on 01942 884542 or wilfdooley@virginmedia.com
