Bogus caller threatening to terminate your landline scam

A warning has been issued by Trafford Trading Standards after a resident contacted them about a bogus caller threatening to terminate her landline.

The woman said she had three calls from an American caller saying her landline was about to be terminated as it had been compromised by something called “California Exchange” the dodgy American then asks that she press some buttons on her phone, realising that this was a scam she did not press anything and immediately ended the call.

Trafford Trading Standards advice is to never respond to calls like this and pressing any buttons as pressing different numbers could result in you spending massive amounts of money on calls which is not needed.
