Police appeal for information after shots were fired in Whalley Range

Police are appealing for information after shots were fired in Whalley Range.

Shortly after 5.25pm on Wednesday 13 February 2019 police were called to reports of shots fired on Yarburgh Street.

Officers attended and found evidence on the street consistent with that of a firearms discharge.

No one was injured and no damage was caused to any premises.

Witnesses reported seeing two cars travelling at speed on Withington Road and Yarburgh Road around the time of the incident, and officers are working to trace the vehicles and their occupants.

Detective Inspector Lisa Ogden, of GMP’s City of Manchester division, said: “We have a team of detectives working to establish the full circumstances of this incident, and we will not stop until we determine exactly what happened and why.

“This incident took place on a fairly busy street and it is possible that several people will have seen what happened. If you haven’t yet come forward to police, please get in touch with us as soon as you can as your information may be vital to this investigation.

“We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw speeding vehicles in the area around the time of the incident, or anyone with dashcam footage.

“There will be extra patrols in the area in the coming days, and I would urge any members of the public with concerns or worries to approach our officers.
