Royal Mail is to increase the prices of its 1st and 2nd class stamps from next month.
The price of a first class stamp will rise 3p to 70p and a 2nd class stamp will also rise by 3p to 61p.
The increase is necessary to help ensure the sustainability of the Universal Postal Service according to Royal Mail, they also claim that they have carefully considered the price rises as they understand how strapped for cash many people are.
Royal Mail’s stamp prices are cheaper than the EU equivalent claiming they cost 99p for a first class stamp and 77p for a 2nd class stamp, the UK also has one of the highest quality of service specifications of any major European country.
The company is also making changes to the pricing structure of its Redirection service. From March 25, pricing will be based on the number of applicants rather than on a per-surname basis to be more reflective of modern society.
