Liverpool marks the 30th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster

Liverpool today marks the 30th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster in which 96 lives were lost.

On April 15th 1989 Liverpool was playing a huge game, the semi-final of the FA Cup v Nottingham Forrest at Sheffield Wednesday’s Hillsborough stadium when suddenly cameras turned to the leppings Lane stand, commentators first thought it was crowd trouble, police were seen pushing away fans, as time elapsed this was no longer crowd trouble, it was a fight for life.

Liverpool fans were on the pitch visibly shaken, some trying to get their breath back, it took a life time for ambulances to turn up, police standing around doing nothing when they could have been trying to get people out was unhelpful at that time

A full inquest on who was to blame for the crush is on going.

We at News4Trafford and indeed the entire borough of Trafford pays its respects to all those that died, and send condolences to the families and close friends.

Football has its rivalry’s but on this day we are all one, for we will always remember the 96 that died and link arms with our Liverpool friends.
