Body of a man found in the water at Salford Quays has been identified

The body of a man found in water close to Media City Metrolink station, Salford Quays, has been formally identified.

Officers were called to reports that a body had been seen in the water at around midday on Monday 22 April 2019.

Officers attended and sadly found the body of a man, which has been formally identified as that of 46-year-old Martin Whelan from Salford.

There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained and officers are appealing for information.

Inspector Joanne Kay of GMP’s Salford District, said: “Our thoughts are with Martin’s family at this incredibly difficult time and we’re committed to finding out the full circumstances surrounding his death.

“While his death is being treated as non-suspicious, we’re appealing for anyone who might have seen Martin in the days preceding his body being found, or anyone with information, to contact us.”
