A free dementia communications training course for carers to support their loved ones with dementia is coming to Trafford.
The new course iss run by Empowered Conversations, part of social enterprise Six Degrees, is in support of this year’s Dementia Action Week 2019 (May 20-26) – which is encouraging people to start conversations.
It takes a different approach to communication in dementia care that is designed to help people living with dementia and their carers to find ways to stay connected and handle emotional stress.
Empowered Conversations trainer Emma Smith said: “Many of us worry about ‘saying the wrong thing’ to someone with dementia, yet a friendly face or listening ear can make the world of difference. And sometimes conversations and connections do not have to be about words.
“We can help. If you’re a friend, relative or carer of a person living with dementia, this free dementia communications course gives you practical support and time to pause, reflect and find new ways to reconnect with loved ones with dementia, surrounded by people who are facing similar challenges.”
The next course will be at Blue Sci – Central Road, Partington, Trafford, M31 4FL, Fridays, June 7, 14, 21, 28, between 10am and 12.30pm.
