In the penultimate game of the season bottom placed Fleetwood were the visitors to MacPherson Park for Trafford MV’s final home fixture of the season.

There was a large crowd on the touchline to congratulate the Trafford MV team on their title winning season. Trafford were in a relaxed mood and with the pressure now off them they had the opportunity to play the game with ball in hand. 

Conditions were difficult with a strong wind, rain and hail influencing the handling and kicking accuracy of all the players on both sides however this did nothing to prevents Trafford getting a resounding result over the fishermen’s friends from Fleetwood.

Trafford were far better in all phases of the game and this saw them run in 8 tries with 5 of them being converted by Pat Eccles. The tries came from players across the park as Pat Eccles 2, Eanna Glynn, Callum Yates, Leon Passley, Craig Collier, Jamie Parker and Luke O’Shea ,avoiding a close shave. Fleetwood were only able to muster a couple of early penalties in response.

The 50-6 final scoreline emphasised Traffords dominant position in the league this season and put’s them in confident mood as they look ahead to their final game of the season away at Littleborough on April 6th.

Captain Danny Burke, who led from the front from the opening whistle collected the Player of the Match award. Head coach Brian Collier also earned a mention for lacking numerical skills when calling the shots! With just one game left to play Southport are in the driving seat for the second promotion place with New Brighton hot on their heels going into the final weekend.

Trafford MV 2nd XV did their promotion hopes no harm with a convincing 39 – 0 win over Tyldesley 2nd XV. Trafford scored tries through Jimmy Craven, Adam Mason, Joe Cooper, Fenton Dickinson, Charlie Valentine and Chris Ward. Charlie Valentine was successful with 3 conversions.

Simon Thornton picked up the Player of the Match award. Trafford are now looking for 2nd placed Littleborough to slip up in the 2 remaining games while Trafford still have 3 games to play – so everything on the line to play for. The next game for the 2nd XV is at home against Leigh on April 6th.

Trafford MV Ladies XV had yet another impressive win this time away at Winnington Park 7 – 29. Tries came Trafford wat through Madie Woodworth 2, Sam Cooney 2 and Lauren Deans, conversions came through Madie Woodworth 2 and Lauren Deans.

Lauren Deans collected the player of the Match award for Trafford. Trafford MV Ladies are in their own title hunt currently leading their league 6 points ahead of Liverpool St Helens with just 2 games to play both against their title challengers LSH and Leigh Ladies.
