For as long as people in Sale will remember the only two phone masts near Manor Avenue was on the junction of Coppice Avenue and The Avenue.

In recent times a new 5G mast replaced a smaller 4G one at The Avenue junction with Manor Avenue, another mast was installed just over the road which is slightly smaller, and after the council refused a Three UK mast right outside the Nisa store on Manor Avenue the telecoms firm decided to appeal and won.

The appeal was won on 14 July 2023 and was installed on 26 April 2024, this new mast in the application was to be a 16 metre monopole, having looked at the mast ourselves this is not 16 metre or a 17.5 metre pole, we don’t even think its 20 metres, it is so big to get a photo our photographer had to bend his back!

Another mast is waiting to be approved or refused right next to the Three UK one next to a field on Manor Avenue, this one is an EE mast and will be 17.5 metres, residents have already objected due to siting and appearance.

We expect the council to refuse this new mast over sighting and appearance and being so close to another mast, the network have said that they looked at many areas suitable for the mast to be installed which may help their case, one of the sites was in Walton Park car park!

EE and even O2 have a dreadful signal in some parts of Sale and where that is the internet speed is almost 2G its that bad, having masts is needed however not near residential areas more so near or on top of schools or where children play which we know has already been allowed.

If you do not want the masts anywhere near you or the kids the only way to try and get a stop is to object to the planning application getting local councillors or even the MP involved would be a boost to get the council to refuse, it needs to happen for all masts even if a new one is not next to your home because once one goes up more will follow just like what you are seeing on Manor Avenue.
