Northern has urged carers across the North of England to remember they are eligible for a special 25% discount on Advance Purchase tickets on the region’s train services.

The train operator issued the reminder during Carers Week 2024, which runs until Sunday (16 June).

The saving, which is available via Discounts for Carers, is delivered in partnership with Network – a company that specialises in employee discounts and benefits.

The discount is available on all of the train operator’s 2,500 services a day.

Stuart Taylor, head of commercial development at Northern, said: “There are 5.7 million unpaid carers in the UK providing essential support to friends or family members.

“With their thoughts focussed on the welfare of others, it’s easy for those providing care to forget they themselves are eligible for support – in our case, a 25% discount on Advance Purchase tickets.

“Carers, both paid and unpaid, do an amazing job and we’re happy to support them by offering this special discount on their journeys.”

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges that carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.

Northern launched its partnership with Discounts for Carers in March 2023.

As part of the same scheme, the train operator also offers a 25% discount on Advance Purchase tickets to NHS workers, teachers and employees of registered charities.

Northern is the second largest train operator in the UK, with 2,500 services a day to more than 500 stations across the North of England.
