A light aircraft has crashed into trees at City Airport or as many would know it “Barton Aerodrome”

The single-seat aircraft was taking off when it got into difficulties, the pilot has been taken to hospital suffering severe leg and head injuries

Shortly after 1pm on Aug 15, police received a report that a light aircraft had crashed.

Emergency services arrived as did the Air Ambulance crew.

The pilot was aged 67 and was treated at the scene and taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The aircraft crashed into trees on the east side of the Barton Aerodrome airfield and there are not believed to be any injuries to others or damage to properties in the area.

Sergeant Stuart Jones from GMP’s Salford Borough said: “Police, fire and ambulance crews were quickly on the scene and able to get the man out of the aircraft.

“The man has been taken to the hospital and is being treated for his injuries. We wish him a speedy recovery.

“Officers will be in the area whilst the clean-up operation takes place.”

Lucky escape for this man, it is not known what the cause of the crash was, as soon as we know we will update the story.
