Cycling and the motorist, two groups of people going about their way, both sharing the road, and both hate each other but why?

We explore the truth surrounding what is one of the biggest issues of our times.

Day in day out I see complaints from motorists about cyclists going through a red, It is now becoming very boring, sure some do go through red but would you agree more motorists go through a red, trying to get through on amber?

Eastway Junction in Sale is the perfect spot for anyone who does not think motorists go through red! just watch more so on a Friday at around 5pm onwards, look at how many go through and how many cyclists go through red!

On one Friday night I saw 7 cars go through red in one go! none on an amber all on red with the green lights showing for pedestrians to cross, it was just luck that no one was crossing at the time, another incident one of many at this junction, where I saw a women in a red car stop on red then started again turning right onto Woodhouse Lane.

Motorists always accuse cyclists of the red light thing, its like a stuck record, but why? simply because it’s a thing called “Transfer of blame” they do not want to admit that they have gone through red many times or have seen it.

What is needed is for both groups to end this mini war and obey the rules of the road once and for all, just because one cyclist goes through red does this mean it is ok for you to go through one? then to blame the cyclist?

Space is becoming an ever-increasing problem more so here in Trafford and as the years roll on by, more cars are bought which not only increases pollution but causes misery since half the time you will be in a long traffic queue.

Remember also a cyclist has no protection, a road bike has 23mm tyres do you know how wide that is? there is little room for mistakes when cycling on one, you cannot just fly up a kerb or go down a pothole, sometimes you can get a turn wrong, it is very dangerous when it’s raining even with good tyres, these cleats also add to the dangers, many cyclists have got stuck in them and end up on the deck, which is not only embarrassing but dangerous since many motorists do not care.

If your a cyclist and are spooked by a careless driver, get on the pavement and take a drink, give yourself a few mins, do not go after a driver, do not two finger them or one finger, this is energy they do not deserve for whatever they had done, keep calm at all times let them go, you focus on yourself and get on the pavement and chill out.

It is hoped that this article has represented the motorist and the cyclist, and so we can live side by side in peace and most importantly in safety.
