An earthquake measuring 3.9 hit the UK this evening Jan 3, the epicentre was off the coast of Scarborough.

Earthquakes and tremors are regular in the UK or around the island.

The biggest shaker was a 6.1 magnitude earthquake in 1931, the most recent was in in Lincolnshire and that was 5.2 magnitude.
