The much-anticipated by-election has at last been given a date in the Bucklow St Martins ward because of John Smith decision to step down.

The date will be September 14 and is widely expected that Labour will get a third councillor, this depends on who Labour’s candidate is, suggestions it could be a resident that the Trafford Labour group were training up, but this was for when Karina Carter steps down next year, so it will be interesting to see who they choose for the by-election candidate.
Of course it will not be that easy as the Tories try to defend the seat that John Smith vacated, and the independents, likely Tony Rudden will step up and give everyone a tough time.
Choosing your candidate must be done in a way that will be thought about, no longer can people just vote for someone or a party just because you have always voted for them, or your family have always voted for them, it is not like that now, it is about how good the councillor will be surely?
