Arrest phone scam causing panic in Cheshire and could spread elsewhere

A phone scam that has been reported many times to Cheshire Police could spread elsewhere.

The scammers ring a random number and pretend to be from HMRC and tell the person that they are now under arrest and a warrant is out for them, it obviously tells you to speak to someone about it and to press a number, this is where the scam is, if you believe it all and hit that number you will find your bill very high.

This is a nasty scam, a trick that would work with some people more so the vulnerable so it is important you share this with elderly people and other vulnerable people.

Having checked one number that these people are phoning from many people have received calls from this number starting 0161 850.

If you get a call like this put the phone down right away and report it to police on 101.
