We have footage of the moment the bomb squad made safe a historic grenade that was found by a member of the public in the Bridgewater Canal near Brooklands Metrolink station.

It was held in a secure part of the station until explosive experts came and took it away and blew it up.

Had this bomb activated it would have killed all around it such was the power, a bomb like this kills or seriously injures people due the shrapnel, tiny fragments of its outer shell which is metal break up and comes out at break neck speed.

Police blocked off roads all around Brooklands Metrolink station yesterday during the morning rush hour.
