The aircraft took off from Belfast Airport at just before 7am and landed safely at Manchester just before 8am.
A woman passenger had taken ill on board, paramedics were on hand to look after her at Manchester Airport.
Passenger emergencies are very rare and in almost all the cases the aircraft has landed at its destination, only in the event of a life threatening illness does the captain divert to the nearest airport.
The Airbus A320 was first flown by Air France in 1987, it is fairly safe to fly on a A320 although it has been involved in a number of crashes since it was brought into service.
