The junior squad from Trafford Rowing Club had a very successful day at the British Rowing Indoor Championships at the Lee Valley Olympic Velodrome in London on Saturday 8th December.

The coach ordered to pick up  the club  didn’t turn up at 4:30am meaning that a number of the parents and coach Leon Langmead went above and beyond and drove to London to make sure that they could compete.

Once at the event the individual events consisted of a row as far as you can in a set time, dependant on age, and there were some fantastic performances across the squad and a number of personal bests.

Later in the day the squads broke into teams for the relays, four people going as far as possible in 8 minutes. The J15 squad coming a fantastic 16th place in the Junior Girls competing with girls in the age group above.

Saving the best until last, the j16 mixed relay squad of Rebekah, Ellen, Myles and Albert took a silver medal. For those who use the rowing machine at the gym they kept a pace of 1:35/500m (including handovers) for 8 minutes! With that the squad got in their respective cars for the long journey home, finally getting back into Manchester at around midnight.

Simon Reeves, Chairman of Trafford Rowing Club said:“The entire squad were fantastic today and coming back with a medal at a national championship is the cherry on the top. This shows the hard work and dedication of the squad and their coach, Leon, coming to fruition.”
