Beware the scam emails offering you a Council Tax rebate

Trafford Trading Standards has today (June 26) issued an advisory over fake emails that are going around offering Council Tax rebates.

If you get the email it will look very convincing like it has come from a government website (gov.uk domain name) the email asks you to click on a link to go claim a £340.99 rebate, you are then asked for your bank details so they can pay you the money.

This is a scam- do not respond to the email and delete it with immediate effect.

If you have any issues with your council tax band you can appeal for free by contacting the Local Valuation Office on 03000 501 501.
