The UK government are set to announce that (VOI) rented e-scooters will be allowed on our roads and cycle lanes as part of a year long trial.
No e-scooters are allowed on pavements, to rent a 12.5mph e-scooter you do not need a helmet or a driving licence.
E-scooters although been banned in the UK because of an 18th century bylaw which makes an e-scooter the same as a moped! an electric bike is perfectly safe to ride on the roads! the law needs to change so that all e-scooter owners can ride freely, as it happens many do this already with police these days to busy with other things, private e-scooter riders will be seen much more during this trial.
The trial which is thought to start at the end of June 2020 is a step in the right direction, however it has the ‘Mobike’ feel to it, actually much worse as a e-scooter can be taken anywhere and adapted, many people have the knowledge to even change take off the speed limiter!
