PETA (The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has issued an Emergency Alert warning dog owners of breathing-impaired breeds who are twice as likely to die from heatstroke than any other breed.
The dogs that are affected are: French Bulldogs, English Bulldogs, Boston Terriers, Pugs, Boxer dogs, Bullmastif, King Charles Spaniel, Cane Corso, Shih-Tzu, Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
These breeds of dog have shortened airways and they all will find it hard to breathe during the hot weather, often people think that the panting is something normal because of exercise that they are thirsty, its actually a sign of distress in these breeds of dogs.
PETA are requesting people not to be buying any of the breeds listed due to the life threatening deformities and if you happen to have a breed listed to take great care during the hot weather.
We think its a case of using some common sense in the hot weather, just give the dog a walk, not to fast keeping control over the animal, keep in shaded areas and on the grass, if its very hot all dogs should be inside in a cool environment with the patio door open so if it wants to go outside it can.
With Autumn on the horizon we will start to see the weather change and no one has to worry, for this time though and for the duration on the week more so on Thursday and Friday weather people are saying Manchester could hit around 28c or even higher so PETA’s warning will help keep your pooch safe.
