Urmston’s Wayne Devlin attended a special reception at 10 Downing Street by invitation of the Prime Minister Boris Johnson in recognition of his many years of singing for charity and good causes.
The Trafford crooner, who sings the songs of the Great American Songbook, was recently honoured with the British Citizen Award for Services to the Arts for using his voice to raise over three quarters of a million pounds for various charities and good causes, giving him the post nominal of BCAa. His invitation to Downing Street further recognises the charitable work he has undertaken.
Wayne said. “I was extremely proud to walk through the doors of 10 Downing Street. To think of who has walked through that door and who has lived at that residence over the decades is just mind blowing. I am totally humbled by the experience and, along with my Val, had a wonderful afternoon meeting and chatting to the Prime Minister at his reception.”
During the COVID-19 pandemic Wayne sang continously for twenty four hours and raised £9,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society in the process. Prime Minister Johnson awarded him the prestigious Points of Light Award for his efforts and in appreciation for his good deeds.
Prime Minister Johnson said.
“Thank you for your 24 hour ‘Swing-a-thon’ in honour of the great Tony Bennett. Music is incredibly therapeutic for dementia sufferers and your soothing crooning will have brought joy and calm to many living with the disease”
“The funds you have raised will also help to further pioneering research into the disease and will have a huge impact on people’s lives.”
Official photographs of Wayne’s meeting with the Prime Minister will be available on Wayne’s website from next week.
Wayne, who is a former Messenger Newspaper columnist, is currently pursuing his own television project alongside working full time in his day job.
He also has a monthly residency at Mulino restaurant in Urmston where he sings the songs of the Great American Songbook. Visit Wayne’s website for details. www.waynedevlin.com
