Section 60 stop and search powers being used by Police in Altrincham could be extended

Since yesterday 21 August, Police have been using Section 60 powers in Altrincham.

These temporary additional powers allow us to stop and search people in the areas shown in the map attached, until 3am tomorrow morning (23 August), although this may be extended.

Police understand the use of a Section 60 can cause concern, however, they use these powers when receiving intelligence that there is an increased risk of violence in the areas outlined.

The priority is to keep the public safe and you will see an increased amount of officers patrolling the area over this week.
