Police closed Manchester Road from Sinderland Road and George Richards Way in Altrincham for a time after a cyclist was hit by a car overnight.

The male cyclist is now fighting for his life after coming off his bike, the bike seen left upright had damage to the back wheel, the vehicle had only damage to the windscreen from what could be seen.

Lots of items and other things were seen with small cones around it as investigators look at every bit of evidence they have to figure out what happened and who was to blame.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “At around 11:20pm on Tuesday 23 August 2022, officers were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving one vehicle and a pedal bike.

Initial enquiries suggest that the pedal bike was traveling down George Richards way towards Manchester Road. A vehicle was also traveling towards the junction where Manchester Road and George Richards Way and Viaduct Road are.

The vehicle has collided with the pedal bike on the junction.

Officers attended the scene and the 32-year-old male who was on the bike was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

No arrests have been made.

The driver of black Volkswagen Golf remained at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries.
