A fly-tipper has been fined after dumping a load of rubbish strewn over a car park in Stretford.

Gary Jeffries, of Thelwall Avenue, Fallowfield, pleaded guilty in court to dumping the rubbish, which included mattresses, rucksacks and drawers.

He was prosecuted by Trafford Council after officers investigated the waste left on the car park on Hawthorn Lane in Stretford. They identified an address left in the mess and questioned him.

Mr Jeffries, 61, told the court that he had tried to visit a rubbish tip but then made the wrong call and dumped the rubbish.

Manchester Magistrates Court fined him £200, with an additional £34 victim surcharge.

Cllr Stephen Adshead, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Environmental Services, said: “Fly-tipping simply will not be tolerated. It is a blight on our communities, a health hazard and we will come down hard on anyone trying to dump their waste in our borough.

“We are proud of our borough. It’s an attractive place to work and live and so we will do everything in our power to keep it that way.”
