Trafford Council wants your views on its Supported Housing Strategy

Residents are being asked their views on a new Trafford Council Supported Housing Strategy which is designed to help those with specific needs.

The Council is committed to ensuring every resident with support needs can live as independently as possible and is consulting with the public on the Draft Supported Housing Strategy 2022-2027.

Supported accommodation is a type of housing that is provided alongside support, supervision, or care to help people live independently. The aim of the strategy is largely to ensure that the right level of supported accommodation, and housing related support, is in place to promote independence. The Council is looking to:

· Enable people with support needs to live as independently as possible within Trafford.

· Ensure an adequate supply of quality accessible and affordable supported housing, and move-on accommodation, is in place.

· Establish closer working relationships with external services, organisations, and charitable bodies to ensure support is available and easily accessible.

· Ensure housing advice is promoted and easily accessible to those with support needs in Trafford.

· Explore and review good practice in other areas in relation to supported accommodation, and support services, and implement within Trafford where possible.

Cllr James Wright, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Housing and Neighbourhoods, said: “It is extremely important for those with support needs to have the right homes to live in. If they do not, it can have a huge impact on their quality of life and independence. The Draft Supported Housing Strategy hopes to provide residents with support needs the opportunity to live independent lives across the borough.

“It is important that we get as many views as possible on the strategy, so I would appeal to people to come forward and let us know what they think.”
