At an executive meeting held recently at Trafford Council one of the things councillors talked about is the Carrington Relief Road.

Consultation was something many councillors at the meeting described as falling short of the required standard since hardly anyone has participated from the areas where the relief road will be most affected.

Aidan Williams said at the meeting: “Partington is a community that is often overlooked and as a consequence having felt let down previously and I am not saying the council but other agencies perhaps their is some mistrust there and the onus is on us to try and remedy that.”

Which third party agencies is he referring to? or did he actually mean people have no trust in the council?

What these councillors are missing here is they caused all the trouble in the first place that includes Partington councillors Aidan Williams and James Wright who thumbed up all the housing developments without ever thinking about the problems that will come with it such as roads, schools, GP surgery, shopping, and higher pollution.

It is now they are trying hard to make people believe that this relief road is the be all and end all of the problems when in reality it will cause more problems.

During the meeting Aidan Williams was heard talking about some people at Partington Shopping Centre saying they wanted the relief road, he was referring to Liz Patel’s statement that she spoke to just 30 people! this is not representative of the what Partington thinks or wants.

Green Party councillor Geraldine Coggins mentioned the problem with consultations was that people already believe the decision has already been made and was a waist of time, she also went on to say the consultation forms were boring and needed to be simplified.

One councillor spoke about the costing of the relief road and how much more was needed for the relief road to be built, Aidan Williams could not say anything and told the councillor that he would send the information over, this did nothing to help the situation, we believe the last time the subject of the relief road was spoken about the council only had £17m.

The council has also put back submitting the application to the end of summer which is not being clear enough and residents watching along may have felt the road was never going to be built.

Opposition will be huge to this road and with the council looking like they are just about to sell off some of our unprotected green spaces to try and save money must now be more of a priority than building a road that they know will do nothing to ease the congestion in the area,
