The home office has said that every police force in the UK must respond to every report of a residential burglary following a review of of burglary deployment across the country.
Although Greater Manchester Police are doing everything they can to protect people, They can only do so in a limited way due to the small number of officers deployed.
Here in Trafford a police spokesperson recently told us that from Altrincham to Old Trafford there is only between 12 and 15 officers to cover that huge area and it is impossible to be everywhere, he continued to tell us that despite the rise in new officers they are only replacing the officers that have either left the force or are retiring.
So despite what the Home Office may say or anyone else in government the facts are police are going to struggle to be at every residential burglary in Trafford.
The best way to help police is for people to increase security of their property as much as they can for example having CCTV or ring doorbell camera, making sure windows are shut at appropriate times, making sure your car keys are nowhere near the front door! and in a faraday pouch, do not leave jackets or anything in the hallway that can be robbed by cane and hook, use a good locking system to prevent from snapping and of course get a big dog which would alert you of anyone near the door.
Although the majority of burglaries are for your car keys these days some are just opportunists and look for weaknesses in your security much like when you are on the internet or using your mobile those security updates are to protect you from hackers looking to get into your mobile phone for your credit card details.
The government is responsible for the mess we are in and it is likely to continue as Police forces around the UK struggle with everyday problems with a dwindling force which stretches them to the limit.
Superintendent Chris Foster, GMP’s force lead of tackling burglary, said: “Over the last 15 months Greater Manchester Police has committed to attending each and every residential burglary reported to us.
“Burglary is a horrible and intrusive crime that often leaves victims feeling vulnerable and unsafe in their own homes. It is therefore only right that we use all of our policing powers to deal with those individuals who invade the homes of others and steal their property.
“While there is still much progress yet to be made, there is also a lot to be proud of in what has been achieved so far. I particularly hope that the results come as a reassurance to the public and highlight the superb work that is happening across our force every day.
“I would also like to use this milestone as an opportunity to underline our commitment to investigate burglary and reaffirm our pledge that we will continue to pursue every viable line of enquiry to bring offenders to justice.”
