Once again Trafford MV played exciting rugby in excellent conditions and once again the God’s were against them as they fell short by a single point with the final kick of the game.

It seems the odds are stacked against the Sale based side as they struggle to turn good performances into League wins. Collecting losing bonus points is keeping the teams head above water but wins are what the players and coaching team are looking for.

Trafford started well as good early pressure gave the opportunity for an early penalty shot which stand off Aaron Booth converted well 0-3.

Continued pressure from the visiting side brought further reward as Tyldesley struggled to hold them at bay and Booth added a second penalty 0-6.

As Trafford MV seemed to be getting into their attacking stride they were struck a telling blow as Tyldesley stole the ball in midfield and attacked down the left flank with the winger outflanking the defence to touchdown the added conversion nudged them ahead 7-6.

With only a few minutes added to the clock the scenario was pretty much repeated as once again MV’s right wing came under attack and the home side scored again, the try went unconverted 12-6. On the half hour a yellow card is given to the Tyldesley No 4 for a high tackle which led to a try for MV as captain Paul Davenport carried the ball over the line in a driving maul, Booth kicked the conversion 12-13 to MV.

Early in the second half it looked like MV may have made a decisive break as Micah Dyos intercepted in his own half and raced away from a chasing defence to score beneath the posts with Booth again converting 12-20.

The game was now developing into an end to end nail biter and Tyldesley again used the pace in their back line as attacking out wide again they score and convert to come right back in the game at 19-20.

Trafford MV were then stunned as the referee awarded a penalty try against them as a scrum wheeled close to the MV line and the club were judged the unlikely culprits 26-20.

There was plenty of life left in both sides and MV again put in a strong challenge with two further tries coming their way through full back Louis Stubbs for MV to lead 26-32. Tyldesley had suffered further yellow cards to both players and coach, whilst MV suffered forced changes through injuries.

The cruel blow however was left to the final seconds of the game as MV’s defence was weighted on their left flank and the short numbered Tyldesley moved the ball quickly to the opposite wing and touch down wide on their left flank. As the clock reached it’s final tick the conversion sailed between the posts and the Tyldesley XV were exuberant in their victory as MV slumped to the ground with disappointment !

This weekend Trafford MV are on the road again as they head to Merseyside and face Liverpool Collegiate – who sit 1 league place and 3 points ahead of MV in the table. MV currently hang on to 8th position despte having only won 1 from 7 league games due to bonus points collected.

A big change in fortune is on MV’s wish list as we head into the Halloween season – no more match day scares needed !
