The Pelican Pub on Manchester Road in Timperley closed its doors due to poor footfall during the Covid Pandemic was due to be demolished making way for a care home and flats.
An appeal was made by Newcare (Altrincham LTD) because of a “Non determination” by Trafford Council according to documents read.
The Planning Inspectorate in his conclusion mentioned that the pub being a mock-Tudor style public house built in the 1930’s and is a rare thing to see these days and because of its architectural features he agreed with Trafford Council that its a non-designated heritage and should not be demolished.
Trafford Planning would have refused the application if it the council was able to determine the application.
Altrincham Lodge though was mentioned with the inspectorate admitting although a modern design lacked quality and has since been vandalised, this makes way for a housing developer to put in a new application to the council.
Residents will be very happy as will those that wanted the pub to stay, Green King who owned the pub may decide to keep it and make this one of the best venues in Trafford.
