If you have limited experience on a bike it can be a bit scary however on 4 December 2022 you will have the chance to learn from experienced cycle instructors how to not only ride a bike but to do this in the safety of a sports centre!

The free cycle training at Partington Sports Centre will be for an hour and all sessions are open to those over the age of 12 when accompanied by an adult, once you arrive you will be in a small group.

If you do not have a bike do not worry bikes will be available and always ride in something comfortable, many cyclists wear running tights for comfort.

If you are interested in this free event these are the times to arrive:

  • 10-11am -if you are a complete beginner
  • 11.15-12.15 -for a complete beginner
  • 12.30-2.30pm -to boost your confidence

Cycling is a great way to not only get out it’s also good for your health and your mind, once you get riding and it won’t take long to learn, you can go down the trails where no cars can go, in complete safety.

Once you have gained confidence you can start riding outside, do not panic just keep cool and use all your senses, keep your eyes peeled, do not wear headphones because your hearing is vital when riding a bike for cars or vans behind.

Do not worry about the rain or snow, in these times we have excellent waterproofing and breathability where you will come back dry.

Wearing a helmet is essential and in our opinion should be mandatory, make sure it fits you!

And the last thing is in the dark make sure you have working lights and as much Hi Vis as possible.

Your bike will need an inspection to make sure everything is fairly tight, so in your bag if going out for a ride must be a toolkit and puncture repair kit, always bring a spare inner tube.

Get a bottle cage for your bike so you can bring a drink with you when you go for a bike ride.
