From tonight (27 Nov) until 4am tomorrow (Monday 28 November 2022), Police will be introducing Section 60 powers covering a part of the Trafford area in response to the stabbing and robbery of a 15-year-old boy earlier today in Old Trafford.

These temporary additional powers will allow officers to stop and search people in the area shown in the attached map for the next 12 hours.

This is also in response to recent knife crime related incidents during the week.

Police understand the use of a Section 60 may cause concern to some residents, however, we use these powers only when proportionate and necessary.

Police officers out and about will continue to do all they can to keep people safe. Extra uniformed and non-uniformed officers have been deployed to the area to support the investigation team and the community.

The force is also continuing to work with partner agencies to fight, prevent and reduce knife crime so anyone who knows or suspects someone is carrying a weapon to report it before it’s too late.

Greater Manchester Police can be contacted via the LiveChat function on the website or 101.

In an emergency, always dial 999.

Information about crime can also be shared anonymously via the independent charity – Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
