All emergency services attended the scene at the top of Warburton Toll Bridge near Partington today at around 1,30pm which some people have claimed also included the air ambulance.

Specialist police divers were seen checking the Manchester Ship Canal under the Warburton Toll Bridge which was closed for a time and found the body of a man, police were also seen on the canal sidings in the search.

In nearby Partington some residents saw the huge emergency service build up on Warburton Lane with one saying “I have never seen so many emergency service vehicles in my life”

The body of the man was brought to a safe place where paramedics gave him life saving treatment but sadly he passed away.

A GMP spokesperson said: “At around 1:30pm today (Saturday 7 January 2023) Greater Manchester Police were called to reports of a person in the water near to Warburton Toll Bridge in Cadishead.

Sadly a deceased body was found at the scene who, with the help of emergency services, was recovered from the water.

Formal identification is still to take place at this time with enquiries ongoing.
