Recent weeks have seen an upturn in form for local Rugby Union Club Trafford MV which has seen them get positive results in 5 of their last 7 games which has seen them climb the table from 8th to 3rd position in the league.
They now sit behind Heaton Moor and Eccles with just 8 games left to play and current form suggests MV may be in the mix come judgement day.
This weekend we have both 1st and 2nd teams playing at home. The 1st XV welcome Tyldesley who were winners by a single point 33-32 at their place back in October our 2nd XV will play Ashton Under Lyne with both games kicking off at 2.15pm.
Trafford MV are calling on local rugby lovers to come along and enjoy Saturday afternoon at their local rugby club as we build up the the Six Nations Championship which starts on Feb 4th.
The 1st XV at the Club has been going through a transition period and it has taken a little while for the new combinations of players to gel.
To the previous squad TMV have had a number of new players arrive this season, a number of players returning to the club after a period of time playing elsewhere plus a number of young players stepping up from youth rugby into the open age game.
It looks like the hard work on the training pitch is now beginning to pay dividends and narrow defeats are being converted into good wins.
Last weekends game away at Eccles was a good example of how MV’s fortunes have changed. MV conceded early the responded with a try from Kieran Edgar to level at 7-7. Eccles took the initiative again and went ahead 14-7 when centre Jamie Kingdon touched down for MV with Aaron Booth accurate again with the conversion 14-14.
With home advantage Eccles looked to have done enough when they scored late to lead 19-14 only to see a battling MV snatch the lead and grind out the win with a try from wing Sam Wilson converted by Booth making the final score 19-21 for TMV. There is a resurgent confidence in the team now and they have a definite target in sight.
As Trafford MV approach their Centenary season the Clubs focus is towards a busy month of celebrations in May 2023 culminating in a Grand Marquee Gala Weekend at the end of the month.
There will be an exhibition of the Clubs 100 years history along with sporting and social events to excite the membership and the local community. The Club extends an open invitation to the local community to come along and be a part of our celebrations
The Club is hoping to hear from former players who may have broken links with the Club – contact wilfdooley@virginmedia.com to get back involved. We also hope to see a number of players return to the game – we have put 100’s of youngsters through their early years training and developments years and it would be great to see some of these young players getting their boots on and turning out again for the Club in it’s Centenary year.
