Trafford Council has won a government ‘Levelling up’ bid for £18m to help revitalise Partington Sports Village and more things in the pipeline.

The money will go towards a refurbishment of the sports centre, a BMX pump track, Changing Rooms for Cross Lane Park, a path will be created around the perimeter of Cross Lane Park.

It is great news for both the council and for Partington residents however we would have looked at what residents wanted, we think a path around the perimeter will be used by dog walkers and the odd runner, maybe the boxing gym and football teams could use this facility more than anyone else.

Refurbishing the sports centre will be the most costly and although welcomed we think Partington deserves a new sports centre with a proper tennis facility at the front, this new sports centre would have a proper bike storage lock up.

The money would be used to create a proper cycling path segregated from all traffic and upgrade the cycle paths with proper signage displayed which must include a block on all motorbikes for safety.

New transport infrastructure has been mentioned where? so what the council probably means is a shelter for Oak Road, what the area needs is more public transport and to use the abandoned rail line which has been doing nothing for decades.

As we have been saying for many years now with all the new housing developments going up two mega sized ones one at the back of Lock Lane and the other on Heath Farm Lane and more in the pipeline the road space will shorten and will bring chaos to the area.

Build a school! using some of the money gained Partington Councillors knew that school places will be a major problem for the area yet still gave the developers a thumbs up! and of course those at Planning Committee meetings.

All those new people coming in with kids will soon have to find a school in another borough unless Primary Schools in Partington have plans to expand, we think you will agree this is unacceptable.

Either way despite our own opinions on this and with research done by ourselves previously on what the residents wanted we all have to be very happy with this big win for Partington who have for so long been neglected by the council and under represented by the political councillors.

Cllr Tom Ross, Leader of Trafford Council, said: “This is fantastic news and gives us the opportunity to significantly improve the health and leisure offer for residents in Partington.

“We believe these new sports facilities will mean more people taking part in sporting and leisure activities.

“It will also create jobs and provide training opportunities and lead to more investment in the area. It ties in with our corporate priorities of reducing health inequalities and supporting people out of poverty.

“We have worked closely with the community on developing these plans and I must thank them for their support.

“We have other plans for the area as well including improving the transport infrastructure in Partington.

“My administration wants to improve the lives of everyone in the borough and we want to make sure we continue to invest in all areas of Trafford.”
