At a recent health meeting councillors (none from Partington) spoke about Partington with one of them seemingly very concerned about the cancer rates in the area.

Addictions were mentioned and the big two ‘Smoking’ and ‘Alcohol’ was top of the list (as it is in other areas) if this is the case then the cancers we are talking about are Lung and Liver cancers, other cancers cannot be ruled out though, we have asked for data from Trafford Council and they have not yet got back to us.

Looking at the situation with the lungs we have seen the statistics for prescriptions of drugs that help with breathing such as inhalers which is very high in Partington, this will probably be to do with smoking and other smoking addictions however we cannot rule out pollution which we know is bad.

Obesity is another issue in the area which can be addressed, we see a rise in prescriptions for Diabetes medication such as Metformin.

Depression and all things Mental Health is on the decline as it is everywhere now due to the Tories breaking the Mental Health Service, although it is still trying to survive the help people get now is very poor unless you are very lucky.

It is indeed a national scandal that people that were getting the right care are now having to go to the GP for help and what can the GP do other than hope Primary Services will help out, even then the waiting list is around 6 months!

Partington has just got £18.2m to give the people a helping in hand at keeping fit, this was a great win by the council and for Partington, with this new information coming to light it might be a better plan to use some of this money on hiring addiction councillors, get people of smoking and help reduce alcohol consumption and other drugs that over time could cause cancers and mental illness.

If even a quarter of the area has cancer they will need much more support than what they have currently, what about the kids? they too will need some ongoing support to understand the dangers of smoking and drinking.

The health of Partington is not good no matter what denial states people go into, it urgently needs looking at an effective plan of action taken to help those who have cancer but for those following into the slippery slope going in the same direction.

Local Trafford Labour Councillors, the Parish Council and others need to get around a table and work on a goal to finally help the good residents of Partington, using surplus cash from a recent award if needed.

We have asked for statistical information from Trafford Council and we await a response.
