With an improvement in the weather and pitch improvements Trafford MV were able to welcome Liverpool Collegiate to MacPherson Park for round 16 of the NORTHERN COUNTIES 2 ADM LANCASHIRE & CHESHIRE LEAGUE.
Struggling Liverpool Collegiate were the opposition and in form Trafford MV are now looking to be a serious opposition for any team in the League.
After only a couple of minutes Trafford MV showed their form and their intention when heavy pressure in the visitors ’22 ended with centre Jamie Kingdon coming onto the ball on a good running line to crash through a flailing defence to crash over and open the scoring.
Aaron Booth converted for an early 7-0 lead. Trafford were building a good forward base and as the visting defence got drawn in the ball was moved neatly to the left wing for young Zack Gardener to outpace the defence and score wide out.
The conversion sailed wide 12-0 to MV. Good driving play from both the MV forwards and backs had Liverpool on the back foot and it was second row Mica Dyos that was next to extend MV’s lead as he finds himself at the bottom of a driving maul that piles over the defensive line 17-0.
As the sides turned around for half time it was plain to see there was not to be a turnaround in Liverpools fortunes. The referee had barely taken the restart whistle from his mouth when MV substitute Andrew Moore powered over setting booth up for a simple conversion 24-0.
Nathan Hamilton was next to get his name on the score sheet as he took the ball at pace and split the defence from close range wide of the right post, Booth found the conversion too much 29-0. Number 8 Kieran Edgar emphasised his good game and the dominance of the home pack as he rounded off a good passage of play from the forwards, the conversion going wide 34-0.
With daylight fading Trafford MV launched one final attack and it was second row Andrew Clegg who slipped through a couple of tackles just inside the Liverpool half, setting off on a gallop, he outpaced the remaining defenders to saunter in for the final score, giving Booth a good angle to slot the conversion and close off the scoring at 41-0.
On the day MV were good all around the park. There are still huge improvements to be made in the potential of the team and complacency must be avoided at all costs.
However the teams above MV, Eccles and Heaton Moor, must be looking over their shoulders. There is a gap to make up however MV are hitting a good streak and confidence with in the squad is high.
The new players are starting to gel and the young players are keeping pressure on and are seeking their opportunities when the time arrives. MV are in a good place.
Trafford MV Ladies 1st XV also had an excellent win away at Littleborough bringing home the points in a hard fought 15-20 win.
This coming weekend there is a free weekend as the Six Nations International Championship kicks off – Trafford MV will be showing the games in the Clubhouse.
Visitors are very welcome.
