A Trafford Green Party Councillor has spilled the beans to a local resident that Trafford could be part of plans for a Oxford style 15 or 20 minute neighbourhood.
Green Party Councillor Michael Welton told the resident that he wanted people to read the Oxford proposals better and once one so he believes people will soon realise they are not draconian and have many exemptions for local people.
Most people are concerned with the amount of APNR cameras which we are aware are all working and believed are being used for crime, the councillor told the resident that the use of these APNR cameras simply allows councils to enforce restrictions on vehicles without having to resort to physical planters and bollards which he says often gets vandalised and which stop absolutely everyone from driving through.
He continues to say that in his understanding is that Oxford want to stop through traffic on residential roads and traffic going through the city centre, local residents will be able to drive to their homes but those wanting to travel from one part of Oxford to the other side will need to go around the ring road rather than through the city centre.
It’s less convenient however no one is stopped from going anywhere they will just take a different route, it is hoped that this will make other more sustainable transport options more attractive.
In our opinion whilst we want to clean up our dirty air which kills over 100 people per year here in Trafford any similar proposals for Trafford will make the bigger roads more chocked up than they are now! It will be difficult for a similar scheme to work in Trafford.
The use of APNR cameras to catch people out must be for those who do not live in Trafford, the exemptions of course will be for emergency services, NHS workers, Carers, and others.
Looking at the bigger picture here in Trafford, our fingers point the the council for approving so many housing developments, although we understand we are short of housing more so social housing, the problem is the majority of people will bring with it a car sometimes two cars!
Even with any presumed proposals the biggest problems for this borough is road space, with no new roads, and no additional schools and doctors we are all going to be screwed and what is even more weird is it will impact all the councillors and council staff.
Green Party Councillor Michael Welton we understand is very gifted, he helps all people and we like the way he responds in a way where a resident will understand, although we do not agree about his views about Radio Frequency! he is truly a good councillor and wish him well in the upcoming elections.
