Trafford MV increased the pressure on 2nd placed Heaton Moor with a convincing win over Ormskirk, a comprehensive performance from MV saw the game stopped early as injuries hindered the visiting side.

Conditions were perfect for a game of Rugby and MV were keen to put up a good show in front of their home support , which was out in force.

The game opened with the teams testing each other with early kicks but with only 3 min on the clock some good driving play and recycling of ball saw centre Andrew Moore run a good line , taking the ball and splitting the defence then slipping a good pass to Jamie Kingdon who sauntered over the line.

Aaron Booth converted 7-0. The writing was on the wall when five minutes later a kick to touch from MV, a lineout win followed by forward drives led to winger Zac Fisher scoring under the posts, Booth converting 14-0.

It seemed like deja vu following the previous weeks 21-73 win at Oldham. MV had a period of good play with good poer play from the pack and determined running and tackling along the back line.

After 15 mins there was a prolonged stoppage as Zac Fisher put in a big tackle leaving his opponent injured. Booth was kicking well and keeping the visitors pinned deep in their own half. Good interplay between Andy Quigley and Kieran Edgar saw the latter run in from 10mtrs for an easy touchdown.

Booth adding extras 21-0. Full back Nathan Hamilton made a good run out of defence taking the ball into the opposition ’22, the ball was kept alive and ended up with Pat Eccles who dashed over on the left 26-0.

Trafford were in full flow and from the kick off play was taken right back at Ormskirk with Zac Fisher attacking down the wing. A quick tap penalty was taken on the ’22 and it was strong running Andrew Moore that crashed over, Booth converting 33-0.

The visitors were already struggling to cope with MV’s level of possession and a good deep kick from Booth brought a good lineout win and forward drives which resulted in Danny Burke scoring and Booth converting 40-0 to bring the first half to a close.

Ormskirk woke up for a short spell, or were MV napping, as their centre broke through a couple of slack MV tackles to score, and convert 40-7. MV responded almost immediately as Keiran Edagar got on the scoresheet again 45-7.

Shortly after this there was a potentially serious injury which saw the game halted for a number of minutes as physio’s attended.

The game was moved to another pitch and continued. Injuries were however taking their toll on the visiting side as MV’s power proved too much. Ormskirk spilled a loose ball which was snapped up by Pat Eccles and went through severak hands to Zac Fisher who raced away into the far corner , Booth adding again 52-7.

Fisher struck again soon after for his hat trick of tries 57-7. This was a game for both forwards and backs to add to their try tally and prop Nathan Bailey was next to go over the try line as a short pass from Pat Eccles put him straight through a gap 64-7.

Play resumed and MV were right back on the attack with Dyos and Sherret  combining well, Eccles chipping through and eventually Danny Burke scoring on the far side of pitch and Booth converting 71-7 the final score after 65 minutes.

Down to 13 men with no more substitutes and a further 2 men unable to run the teams agreed with the referee to halt the game on 65 mins with MV convincingly ahead and with no need to add insult to injury. This was a spirited performance from the Ormskirk team but the odds were stacked against the from the start and the injury situation went from bad to worst.

Trafford MV’s confidence is high but big challenges still lie ahead and a strict discipline must be adhered to in order to maintain the late surge MV are currently seeing. This weekend TMV make the short journey to Salford to face 7th placed De La Salle who won 21-14 at bottom club Orrell last weekend.

Trafford MV Ladies XV team won 17-15 at Eccles in the Lancashire Cup and the Senior Colts XV maintained their League leading position with a 11-36 away win at Aldwinians – great results all round.
