Greater Manchester Police are adding 260 new police officers to the force but retiring 300 PCSO’s in what has been dubbed the biggest change in policing in a generation.

The changes have come about following a consultation that attracted over 8000 people who thought policing in Greater Manchester was poor or required improvement.

What all this means is Trafford will have 2 inspectors, 6 sergeants and 24 officers with one PCSO per ward.

During a press conference held on Monday Andy Burnham said: “This is the most significant change to policing in Greater Manchester in a generation.

“I am aware we have asked our residents to contribute more to support GMP and I am glad we are now in a position to give them a return on their investment.

“A dedicated, guaranteed team in every single community with an increase in the number of warranted officers.

“I have said I want to see proactive, accountable policing in every single community in Greater Manchester.

“With an outstanding leader in Stephen Watson, and this new neighbourhood policing structure, that is what GMP is set up to deliver and I am confident that they will.”

It is great news for Trafford that something positive is happening to reduce crime in the borough although they will know that we have a bad drugs problem and all to often we are seeing our children being caught up in criminality being lured mostly by money, or becoming a user, of course its not just the drugs issues that is the cause of crime.

Policing is also about helping vulnerable people and having to attend schools to give children some caring advice on why being a naughty boy or girl is not the route they need to be taking.

We hope that police do get information from housing groups about certain people for intelligence since they have much to share! they also have much more powers to act on anti social behaviour than they are saying and should be told to act appropriately to incidents and not to leave it to local police officers.

Stop and search powers will be increased in the borough which means any officer can stop and search you, in both North and South teams will have warranted officers and can also interview and investigate powers.

Residents will also be able to report any crime or suspicious activity through the ‘Bee in the loop’ system on the Your Area part of the GMP website.
