Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) is to be banned in the UK and extra powers given to police and authorities to tackle anti social behaviour has been announced.
The ban on Nitrous Oxide is hoped to combat the rise in anti social behaviour and the bad effects this gas has on the human body, with some young people having nasty side effects that has left them in a wheel chair for the rest of their lives or worse!
Nitrous Oxide will soon be a ‘Class C’ drug in the UK it will mean police will then have more powers to fine people using or selling the gas and in some cases maybe a short stay in Prison.
Previously the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs had said that Nitrous Oxide should not be banned under the Misuse of Drugs act 1971, the review also found “no substantive evidence of links between nitrous oxide and anti-social behaviour” apart from littering.
The government went against its own Advisory Panel by making the decision to ban Nitrous Oxide Prof Adam Winstock, an addiction medicine specialist and founder of the Global Drug Survey, said: “it’s going to be a far greater harm than the risks for the vast majority of people using nitrous oxide.”
Nitrous Oxide causes great harm to the addicted user due to a vitamin deficiency that eventually causes damage to the spinal nerves.
Also today 27 March 2023 the government announced new powers to tackle anti social behaviour where police will now be able to take a more less lenient approach to offenders.
When people inhale the gas they get high for a moment that is believed to make you feel a bit euphoric for a short time which tends to make the user giggle hence the name Laughing Gas.
Inhaling too much can bring on paranoia which is a symptom of a mental health disorder it is commonly taken in a balloon mostly at a party.
Nitrous Oxide is claimed to be so popular that its almost beating Cannabis which is the smelly drug of choice of the majority of people although this drug is a ‘Class B’ substance it has seen a huge rise in users and seemingly seems to be out of control in all areas of the country, this might be due to the ‘Slap on the hand’ approach.
Bigger fines are coming to those that fly tip under new laws announced today along with additional powers for housing providers to help them tackle the ABS issues and to work more to end disputes and work harder to understand why some people behave so bad and help them.
