Incident: Police close off Stretford Road in Old Trafford

Police have closed off Stretford Road in Old Trafford tonight (19 April 2023) after it is believed a bomb has been found in a car.

At around 6:45pm this evening (Wednesday 19 April), Police were called to Stretford Road in Old Trafford following a report that a bus passenger was refusing to pay the fare and causing some disruption.

Police officers attended and discovered a suspicious item which residents claim was a suspicious package found in a car although we have no confirmation of this at the time of publishing.

A man has been arrested and remains in police custody.

In line with normal procedure, a scene remains in place whilst EOD (bomb squad) assess the item.

Members of the public are asked to avoid the area, with road closures in place on Stretford Road and East Union Street.
