Domestic abuse victims are being warned to switch off your mobile phone during the UK emergency alert test which will be this Sunday at exactly 3pm.
The alerts are just a test however could put people at risk as it could give away the location of secret devices that is being used as a lifeline to flee the abuser.
Refuge organisation website says ” Our concern at Refuge is for survivors that have hidden phones within the home, we are advising survivors to opt of receiving the alerts on their hidden device, you can still receive warning messages on your device that is not hidden.”
You can find out more about how to stay safe during the UK Emergency Alert Test if you have an iPhone or a phone using Android such as a Samsung or Oppo etc https://refugetechsafety.org/emergency-alerts/
The alerts will come from your local 4G or 5G mast in the normal way, these alerts are to help you during an emergency situation such as a weather warning or flood alerts, some people though have questioned why we need these alerts for such things since we already have warnings.
