Trafford MV Rugby Football and Cricket Club (R.F.C.C.) the local community sports club based on Finny Bank Road, off Glebelands Road (M33 6LR) is this year celebrating it’s Centenary season.

That is one hundred years of offering a sporting life to thousands of players both young and old as an amateur sports club within the community.

On Friday 5th May the Club will begin it’s Centenary celebrations with the opening of an exhibition in the Clubhouse which will chart the history of the Club. The exhibition is open to all and local residents are welcome to attend during the Club’s opening hours.

The club was originally formed on May 2nd 1923 by a group of 17 apprentices at an engineering company called Metropolitan Vickers (later becoming AEI Ltd. and eventually becoming GEC Ltd.), to provide a sports facility and the opportunity to play rugby against other companies around the region under the name of Metrovick RFC.

Over the years the club has enhanced it’s facilities and clubhouse to be the envy of many club’s at a higher playing level. Rugby has been the main driver with six senior men’s teams being fielded some Saturdays. Mini and Junior Rugby has thrived at MacPherson Park, named after Jim MacPherson a club legend, and hundred’s of local children have passed through the club enjoying years of active sport.

In 1948 the Club added Cricket to it’s portfolio and this part of the Club is also in celebratory mode as it reaches it’s 75th Anniversary.

This additional sport enabled players to be active all year round and this option is still available to club members. We are hoping that a warm. dry Summer is ahead for our cricket teams to get plenty of game time. We welcome new players and spectators who wish to enjoy the summertime with us.

As a Club we are inviting the local Community to visit us for our Exhibition opening on Friday May 5th at 7.00pm to help us kick start our big month. Food will be available to purchase and we will have our Clubhouse and bar open to the public from 6.00pm. Admission to the evening is free.

On Saturday May 6th we have an afternoon aimed at the ladies with an Afternoon Tea and Gin Tasting – tickets available from the bar at the Club. The King’s Coronation will be showing on our large screen TV’s.

There will be a number of other events through the month of May culminating with a Sportsman’s Dinner featuring former England , British Lions player and TV commentator Brian Moore on Friday 25th and a Grand Marquee Gala Ball on Saturday 26th.

We expect to see many faces from past and present visiting the Club over the next few weeks but we would dearly like to see new faces walking through our doors.

Pay us a visit if you are thinking of having a function, if you want to find a new sports Club, if you are new to the area and don’t know who we are or if you are a neighbour that just hasn’t had the cause to call in. Please pop in and say hello.
