A violent sex offender has been jailed for 15 years, following a GMP investigation into a two-year campaign of abuse.
James Scanlon 47, from Sale was sentenced today (Friday 26 May 2023) at Minshull Street Crown Court, after being found guilty of offences including rape, sexual assault, and actual bodily harm.
The jury was told that the abuse culminated in June 2022, when Scanlon held the victim against her will and subjected her to a serious and prolonged sex attack.
Detective Constable Jacob Corrigan, of GMP’s Trafford district, said: “Firstly, my thoughts are with the victim of this horrific incident. She has suffered tremendously at the hands of Scanlan. The victim will continue to receive support from specialist services and, owing to this, she has been able to begin the recovery process.
“Sexual violence will not be tolerated in our communities, and we will continue to support those who suffer. Of that’s you, please talk to us. We can help you; we can give you the support you need, we can work with you to achieve justice and remove dangerous individuals from our communities. You are not alone.”
If you or someone you know has been a victim of rape or sexual assault, we encourage you not to suffer in silence and report it to the police by calling 101 or 999 in an emergency.
