Award winning homebuilder, Miller Homes, has welcomed a group of 12 students from Dixons Brooklands Academy, accompanied by their teacher and careers advisor, on a visit to their Varsity Quarter development in Northenden.
The initiative is part of Miller Homes’ commitment to support and inspire future generations of builders, and to engage with the local community through this exciting educational initiative.
The students, who are currently pursuing their Level 2 BTEC course in construction and the built environment, were thrilled to be gaining a first-hand experience of building site operations. The group were given a unique insight into key elements of the construction process such as the laying of foundations as well as on-site health and safety management.
Guided by Design Manager, Jonathan Lowe, and Senior Architectural Technician, Andrew Milnes, the budding students were taken on an informative tour of the development. The students had the chance to explore the homes at various stages of construction, which helped them gain an understanding of important processes such as property insulation. This was followed by an informative Q&A with the site team and sales manager.
Peter Jones, Teacher at Dixons Brooklands Academy commented, “We want to extend a massive thank you to Miller Homes for arranging such a valuable day out for our students. It was a great success, and the students gained a wealth of knowledge that will greatly benefit their studies. We appreciate their support in nurturing our students’ educational journey.”
Clare Noakes, Miller Homes’ Sales Director for the North West, said: “We are delighted to have hosted the students from Dixons Brooklands Academy at our Varsity Quarter development. Miller Homes understands the importance of engaging with the local community and inspiring the next generation of builders. It was a pleasure to see the students’ enthusiasm and passion for the housing industry, and we hope this experience contributes to their ongoing learning and development within their course.”
The visit to Miller Homes’ Varsity Quarter development marks another milestone in the homebuilder’s ongoing efforts to support and inspire local communities. By providing young students with first-hand exposure to the construction process, Miller Homes aims to ignite their passion for the industry and help them make informed decisions about their future careers.
Miller Homes’ new flagship development in Northenden, Varsity Quarter, will transform the old city campus of Manchester College. The site will consist of 224, three-to-four-bedroom high quality homes, all of which are sustainably built and feature spaces for home working and flexible living.
