A report by ITV alleges that three of the big supermarkets are selling chicken supplied by a Polish firm who gives chickens drugs to treat infection is linked to a superbug.
They claim a firm called SuperDrob a European meat producer, supplies frozen chicken products to Asda, Iceland and Lidl. the ITV investigation found the firm is sourcing chickens from farms that use the same group of antibiotics on poultry that is also critical to treat human infection.
The Polish firm was linked to an outbreak of antibiotic resistant Salmonella in the UK and Europe in 2020, which killed five people and infected around 1,300 others.
Meanwhile an investigation from Open Cages shows a farm mistreating chickens, young chickens run over, operatives have to break legs and worse, chickens seen in a video all crammed into one area and they are having to walk in urine.
The chickens if they survive the torture go on to big HGV’s on to slaughter and packaged for LIdl, another investigation by Open Cages shows similar treatment on a farm which supplies chicken meat to Morrisons.

We expect from the ITV investigation and Open Cages work lessons will have been learnt and they will not be using farms that stuff chickens up with antibiotics or growth hormone, and they will make sure that farms treat animals with respect and to make sure all are able to roam freely.
