The construction of a brand new artificial football pitch next to an existing one has got underway in Partington.
This new pitch belongs to The Dean Trust who owns the land at Broadoak School and whilst the pitch is owned by them when the school is not using the facility they have to share it with the community as part of a condition.
The school has the pitch from 8am to 5pm daily whilst open and at all other times its open to the public which they would have to book 7 days in advance to hire the pitch, access for priority groups has been included.
It is not fully known if any of the £18.3m levelling up fund helped get this football pitch over the line, although we question why a new pitch was needed since one was already in use and had just been given a new surface.
Although its another bit of infrastructure much needed in Partington it will be likely to have similar access for local people which from what we have seen ourselves means hardly anyone disadvantaged will be able to use the facility.
Access to the new pitch will be from Chapel Lane near to the Partington Sports Centre entrance and car parking will be on the Sports Centre grounds/ Broadoak School
Broadoak School could have opted for a full 400m athletics track with the possibility of a football pitch in the middle which could have also been artificial, this would of been used for many purposes, helped people from the community to get fitter, be happier and make new friends along the way.
Having the facility with people selected to secure the site would have also meant no one could ruin the track, a new running club could have also been made, running meetings and somewhere for the football clubs and even the boxing club to go for fitness.
The new artificial pitch will come with it lighting and fencing much like the one already in use and will be built and operational estimated by October 2023.
