The Freemasons of Urmston are proud to announce the donation of a community bench aimed at offering a hand of friendship to residents and fostering a stronger sense of unity within the community.

This gesture of goodwill reflects the Freemasons’ commitment to supporting the community in which they live and serve.

The community bench graces the heart of Urmston, a gift that embodies the bond between Freemasonry and the local residents. Spearheaded by local Freemason Eddie Wilkinson, of Flixton Lodge No 4869.

This project not only provides a resting spot for weary shoppers and other people to the area but also symbolises the Freemasons commitment to helping their community.

Embellished with the emblematic square and compass the bench signifies a connection between Freemasons and the community. This lasting emblem serves as a reminder that local Freemasons stand ready to support those in need.

A discreet plaque reads: “Province of West Lancashire, South Eastern Group. This bench has been gifted to the local community by the Freemasons who meet at Urmston Masonic Hall. Please have a seat.”

Situated along Flixton Road near the railway station, the bench rests between the station entrance and the bustling crossroads, making it easily visible to both residents and passersby.

Eddie not only conceptualised and executed this visionary project but also rallied Urmston lodges to raise the required funds for its creation and transportation from Scotland where it was manufactured.

With support from various lodges, individual Freemasons donations, and the very generous assistance of Trafford Council for its installation, the project embodies a profound sense of communal collaboration.

The Freemasons of Urmston have a rich history of giving back to the community through various philanthropic endeavors. This latest contribution underscores their commitment to the betterment of society and reflects their desire to make a positive impact on the lives of Urmston’s residents.

Local leaders and residents alike have expressed their gratitude for the Freemasons’ generosity and their dedication to creating spaces that promote social interaction and relaxation.
