Trafford will commemorate the battle of britain remembering all those that died which started in July 1940 and ended on Halloween that same year.
This military campaign was of the air, the German Luftwaffe came over the UK dropped many bombs destroying infrastructure, they came over Manchester and bombed Trafford Park which sadly included Manchester United’s Old Trafford ground.
Some of the bombs dropped by the Germans did not explode upon impact and sometimes are found by magnet fishers in the Bridgewater Canal through Trafford.
Those brave souls will always be remembered and we shall never forget those that died for us in the Battle of Britain and WW2.
Cllr Judith Lloyd, Trafford Council’s Armed Forces Champion, said: “It will be a massive honour to again pay tribute to all those who bravely fought in the Battle of Britain. The battle was a turning point in World War II – if the RAF had not held off the Luftwaffe, Hitler would have moved forward with his Operation Sea Lion invasion of the British Isles.
“We can never underestimate how important this victory was for all of our freedoms.”
You can join in on September 17 at Sale War Memorial at 10.30am.
